The flip side of the coin to this law is that there are negatives to the Texas approach. One downside of the new law is that it will limit access to the court- house. As the law in Texas now stands, it would limit access for the poor teenage population and minority population in Texas. Children who marry under the age of eighteen primarily live in rural areas and come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.230 These are areas where access to legal profes- sionals and the courthouse is the most problematic. Statistics show that there are typically not enough attorneys to represent the poor and represent the poor and rural adult population, let alone adolescents in these areas.231″
